YALPAY is a Quechua word of the central zone of Peru which means "memory" or "remember".

He studied Communication Sciences and graduated with a major in Journalism from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP) in Lima.
Between 2008 and 2009 he was part of the Oxfam communications regional (Latin American) and national team. He worked as photographer in Etiqueta Negra Magazine and photo editor for Oxtam's annual reports between 2009 and 2012.
He has been finalist in the Global Landscape Forum International Contest in 2014 and selected for the following main exhibition during the COP20 in Lima, Perú. Is part of the permanent exhibition 'Intensidad y Altura de la Literatura Peruana' in Casa de la Literatura de Lima since 2015. On 2016, was finalist in the 'Revelaciones: sobre el empoderamiento económico de la mujer' contest, organized by UN Women; participated also in 'Mujeres luchando por sus derechos' organized honoring the International Women's Dayby Federación madrileña de ONG para el Desarrollo in Madrid; and exhibited in the colective exhibition called 'Cuando 1+1=3' as a result of a Worshop given by Juan Valbuena as part of Valparaíso's International Foto Festival in Chile.
One yerar later, in 2017, achieved an honorable mention in the Picture of the Year Latam Contest. Took part in the colective exhibition 'Fronteras invisibles' (Hidden borders) after a Workshop with the World Press Foto winner Walter Astrada during Valparaíso's International Foto Festival in Chile and selected for the main exhibition of the International Foto Festival in León (FFIEL), México.
In 2018, his series was selected to be part of 'Off Limits' the main exhibition of the International Photo Festival 'Odessa Photo Days' in Ukraine; also was selected for Transeurope Portfolio Reviews PHE2018 portafolio riviews during the Interanational Photography and Visual Arts Festival in Madrid, Spain.
In 2022 was selected for the main exhibition of the Africa Photo Fair Photography Festival in Ivory Coast and in 2023 won the 2nd price in the Latinamerican International Photography Festival in the category 'documentary', in Chile.
Currently operates as a freelance photographer developing his own documentary projects and working with organizations, institutions and companies on their visual projects.
